Micro Suction

ear wax removal procedure

Safe and gentle micro suction technology

Earwax is naturally produced by glands inside the ear canal, but occasionally can become hard or impacted, causing discomfort and difficulty hearing. The hearing care professional visiting you will use a fine, sterile suction device using safe low air pressure to remove any wax obstruction. This method offers much less risk than traditional irrigation methods or syringing.

Skip long waiting times

A lot of local GP practices have long waiting lists or have now stopped offering this service. If you book your appointment with us you’ll be seen within days, not weeks or months, either in our clinic or at comfort and safety of your home.

What is earwax?

Our ears produce a natural wax in our ears to protect and clean the ear canal – this usually falls out on its own. If the body produces too much of this wax it can become impacted, causing hearing issues or discomfort.

What to expect at your appointment?

The procedure will be fully explained to you before it is carried out to ensure you are happy to proceed. The hearing care professional will use a magnifying headset to view your ear canal as they gently insert a small probe into it, attached to a suction device which will remove the wax.

Why Choose Micro Suction?

  • Traditionally ear wax is removed using ear irrigation, which involves injecting a jet of water into the ear to help dislodge the wax. Ear irrigation is sometimes not effective and some patients may find it uncomfortable or unpleasant. It also increases a risk of an ear infection due to water in the ear canal.
  • Micro suction is usually well tolerated by most people; it delivers excellent and instant results and tends to be much more effective than any of the traditional wax removal methods.
  • Micro suction is a procedure which uses gentle suction to remove excessive or troublesome ear wax or debris from the ear canal.
  • Micro suction ear wax removal is performed with the aid of an operating microscope and a finely calibrated suction device. It is completely safe, as the hearing care professional can clearly see what he or she is doing inside your ear canal using the microscope.
  • No materials or liquids are introduced to the ear during the procedure.

Are there any side effects?

The procedure, while effective, can have mild side effects such as the following:

  • Minor levels of dizziness
  • Discomfort in the ear canal
  • Reduced hearing
  • An increased sensitivity to audio stimulus

Thankfully, much of these effects are only temporary and the process itself should be completely painless. Injury and infection are extremely rare, but you should always inform our specialists should you experience any further complications.
